For twelve years men and devas had tried in vain to discover the basis of prosperity and happiness. The Lord of Buddha has expounded such a basis comprised in the Thirty Eight Blessings, which can remove or destroy all evils and bring about prosperity and happiness of both men and devas.Let us now recite those Thirty Eight Blessing.

Ashin Anada Said:-

Thus, have a heard.

At one time, the Blessed One was staying at Jeta vana monastery of Anathapindika in Savatthi.Then late at night, a certain Deva, lightening up the whole jetavana with his surpassing beauty come to the Blessed One. Standing at a suitable place, he respectfully addressed the Glorious One in this verse -

Many Men and Devas , Desiring Happiness, Have Pondered On The Question Of Blessing, But Could Not Get The Right Answer.May You Please O; Venerable One Tell Me What Is The Noblest Blessing...

(1) Not to associate with fools,

(2) To associate with wises,

(3) To honour those worthy of honour, these are the Noblest Blessing

(4) To live in a suitable locality,

(5) To have done good deeds in the past,

(6) To set oneself in the right course, these are the Noblest Blessing.

(7) To be possessed of vast learning,

(8) To be possessed of skill,

(9) To be well trained in discipline,

(10) To have pleasant , good speech, these are the Noblest Blessing.

(11) To support mother and father,

(12) To cherish wife and children,

(13) To have unconfused occupation, these are the Noblest Blessing.

(14) To give alms,

(15) To live righteously (or) to practice Dhamma,

(16) To help relatives,

(17) To do blameless deeds, these are the Noblest Blessing.

(18) To cease from sins,

(19) To abstain from sins,

(20) To refrain from intoxicants,

(21) To be vigilant in righteous acts, these are the Noblest Blessing.

(22) Reverence,

(23) Humbleness,

(24) Contenment,

(25) Gratitude and

(26) Listening to Dhamma at proper time, these are the Noblest Blessing.

(27) To be patient,

(28) To be obedient,

(29) To meet with holy persons,

(30) To discuss the Dhamma at proper time, these are the Noblest Blessing.

(31) To restrain against worldly pleasures,

(32) To live holy and pure life,

(33) To have in sight knowledge of four Truths, Noble,

(34) To realize Nibbana for oneself, these are the Noblest Blessing. The mind that stands.

(35) Unshaken,

(36) Unsorrowing,

(37) Passionless and,

(38) Secure when toughed by the worldly conditions, these are the Noblest Blessing.




Conclusion:

Those who have done such auspicious deeds can not meet with any defeat and gain happiness every where. This for them, is the Noblest Blessing
